Laura N. Steel (Partner-Washington, D.C.) and Yoora Pak (Associate-McLean) obtained dismissal of a $30 million lawsuit brought by a developer against Frederick County, Maryland. The case was heard in the Circuit Court for Frederick County.

Lori S. Nugent (Partner-Chicago) will speak at the American Conference Institute’s 4^th Annual Cyber & Data Risk Insurance Conference to be held September 27-28, 2010, at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel in New York City. The event will address leading practices in cyber and data risk management.

Martin S. Schexnayder (Managing Partner-Houston) and Claire W. Parsons (Associate-Houston) successfully defended a corporate attorney in an appellate claim for a legal malpractice case. This case was heard in the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit of Texas. 

Alan B. Friedberg (Partner-White Plains) and Milan P. Spisek (Associate-White Plains) were granted summary judgment in U.S. District Court, Southern District, by Judge Laura Taylor Swain in a matter pertaining to civil rights and medical malpractice. The claim was brought by an inmate incarcerated in a New York state penitentiary against a hospital located in White Plains, NY.

Martin S. Schexnayder (Partner-Houston) and Claire W. Parsons (Associate-Houston) won a decision affirming the dismissal of a legal malpractice case in the Court of Appeals, Fifth District of Texas.  Wilson Elser defended a corporate attorney alleged to have had a conflict of interest in the formation of a limited partnership.

Donna-Marie Baloy (Partner-White Plains) obtained summary judgment on behalf of a client, a nurse practitioner specializing in obstetrics.  The plaintiff claimed that the nurse practitioner, along with the treating OB/GYN, committed malpractice.

Adam R. Bialek (Partner-White Plains) and Scott M. Smedresman (Associate-White Plains), with the assistance of Walter L. Williams (Partner-McLean) and Amna Arshad (Associate-McLean), successfully obtained an order in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, directing the transfer of a domain name that was being wrongfully withheld by a client’s former Polish member and licensee.

Rory L. Lubin (Partner-White Plains) successfully defended a New York reproductive tissue bank sued by Pennsylvania residents on behalf of a child suffering from Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome is a genetic mutation associated with mental retardation, behavioral disorders and reproductive systems impairments.  The ruling is expected to have national implications to members of the assisted reproductive technology community when it comes to risk assessment and planning.

Peter A. Lauricella (Partner-Albany) has been selected by The Business Review as one of its 2010 "Forty Under 40" honorees. The annual newspaper project recognizes 40 professionals under the age of 40 who are leaders in their businesses and communities.

Michael J. Naughton (Partner-New Jersey) was a featured speaker at the Petroleum Equipment Contractors Association’s Underground Storage Tank (UST) Certification Seminar. The seminar was conducted March 26, 2010.

M. Douglas Eisler (Partner-Philadelphia) will speak at Perrin’s Asbestos Litigation Conference: Cutting-Edge Issues in Asbestos Litigation to be held on February 25-26, 2010, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.  The conference will touch on the future trends expected to shape the resolution of asbestos claims for plaintiffs, defendants and insurers.  Doug’s discussion will focus on tracking the historical movement of asbestos claims and the legal, political and geographical attributes of an emerging jurisdiction.
