Wilson Elser has represented government clients in many issues that required creative and aggressive solutions for problems that had a "public face." The representative cases handled by attorneys include matters surrounding allegations of violations of the Civil Rights Acts of 1871 (Section 1983), charges of police brutality, false arrest and false imprisonment. These "public face" issues also included matters of alleged violations of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as well as the free speech and religious practice clauses of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
In regular, ongoing government business matters, Wilson Elser has handled zoning and land use, claims involving tort liability, discrimination in employment, wrongful discharge, failure to provide adequate police protection, malicious prosecution and sexual harassment.
