Ami Shah Joins Wilson Elser’s Houston Office
HOUSTON (October 17, 2012) – National law firm Wilson Elser is pleased to announce Ami Shah has joined the firm’s Houston office as of counsel. With nearly 10 years of experience focused on the securities industry, Ms. Shah bolsters the firm’s national Securities practice.
Ms. Shah began her legal career and spent seven years in Wilson Elser’s White Plains’ office, handling securities industry and accountants’ malpractice matters. She then worked as general counsel for broker-dealer firm NEXT Financial Group, Inc. until recently rejoining the firm in Houston.
“We are thrilled to have Ami back at Wilson Elser,” shared Fred Knopf, chair of the Securities practice. “Her career both at the firm working as outside counsel and then in-house with a broker-dealer as general counsel provides her with a 360 degree view of how to provide value to her clients. She is truly an asset to our national team.”
Ms. Shah provides a full complement of legal services to meet the needs of securities broker-dealers and other financial services firms in regulatory, compliance, transactional and litigation matters.
Although Ms. Shah will be handling litigation, her primary role is to provide consultative services to her clients, helping them remain compliant with today’s ever-changing legislative and regulatory environment.
As outside legal counsel, Ms. Shah represents investment advisors, registered representatives, broker-dealers, accountants, pension plans and financial industry firms in all phases of litigation in federal and state courts as well as in nationwide FINRA arbitration and FINRA Department of Enforcement proceedings.
She has litigated claims involving the Securities Act of 1933, Securities Exchange Act of 1934, Investment Advisors Act of 1940, blue sky laws, tax and antitrust laws, attestation engagements, self-regulatory organization statutes, and employment and partnership disputes.
Ms. Shah is admitted in Texas, Connecticut and New York. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto (1998) and her Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law (2002).
