Angela M. Duerden Of Counsel




Angela Duerden has significant experience representing a wide variety of employers, from small family-owned businesses to international corporations. Her practice includes providing advice and counsel to her clients on personnel matters and handling the defense of employment-related litigation. Angela actively works with clients in Florida and California and is a highly sought-after speaker on various workplace issues, including compliance with equal employment opportunity laws, disability management issues, and diversity and inclusion.

Prior to joining Wilson Elser, Angela worked in the Los Angeles and Orlando offices of a prestigious national employment law firm for 14 years. She served as law clerk to the general counsel at Konica Business Technologies while in law school, and studied in Innsbruck, Austria, prior to receiving her master’s degree in German Literature from Vanderbilt University. Angela takes an active role in Wilson Elser’s Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.

Employment Practices & Compliance
Angela devotes a significant part of her practice to advising clients on difficult workplace issues and partnering with employers to develop sound personnel policies and practices. These include the creation and implementation of disability management policies relating to family and medical leaves of absence, the interactive process under state and federal laws, determining reasonable accommodations and return-to-work strategies. Angela proactively partners with employers to develop strategies to avoid litigation. She works with clients to conduct workplace investigations, audit wage-and-hour policies and practices, and ensure employee handbooks are kept current.

Employment Litigation
Angela is an experienced litigator, who has defended employers in proceedings before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in California and Florida. She defends employers against all types of employment litigation, including actions alleging discrimination and harassment, restrictive covenants and whistleblower claims, as well as litigation relating to protected leaves of absence and disability issues. Angela also has extensive experience defending employers in wage-and-hour matters, including class actions and representative lawsuits.
