As a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and in other leadership roles, Ben Heller has contributed significantly to the success of Wilson Elser’s Chicago office since it opened in 1988. He is an experienced coverage and defense lawyer who focuses his practice in the areas of professional and general liability, employment practices liability, and also serves as coverage/monitoring counsel for directors and officers liability. Over the past 27 years, Ben has had the opportunity to represent insureds and their carriers in a wide variety of litigation.
Ben works closely with lawyers in all of Wilson Elser’s office locations to ensure that his clients have access to and receive the benefit of the firm’s full breadth of resources and experience. He has built his national client base by providing consistent and cost-effective legal services, while maintaining a high level of professional quality.
Professional Activities
Ben has lectured in the areas of claims avoidance, risk and claims management, case evaluation, and alternative dispute resolution. He has also participated in numerous client presentations and publications.
Areas of Focus
Insurance Defense
At the beginning of his legal career, Ben handled primarily personal injury lawsuits for property and casualty insurers. He soon began working on higher profile litigation, including the defense of healthcare professionals and product manufacturers. As his legal skills developed, Ben broadened his practice to include the defense of non-medical professionals such as agents and brokers, architects and engineers, and lawyers. Over the past 10 years, Ben’s practice has expanded to include the defense of employers and landlords against discrimination claims.

In addition to his litigation practice, Ben has been actively involved in assisting carriers on insurance coverage matters, including general liability, professional liability, employment practices, and directors and officers liability.
