Charley Grimes is a transportation litigator focusing on the defense of clients in the trucking industry and on providing representation to motor carriers in high-exposure litigation. This includes rapid post-accident emergency response services to transportation clients. A trial attorney with 21 years of experience representing corporate clients in all phases of high-exposure litigation, Charley has tried 26 cases in his career, 14 of which were tried to verdict before a jury. He has tried personal injury and wrongful death cases in state and federal courts. 

The bulk of Charley’s experience has involved the transportation industry, and a large part of his practice was once dedicated to the defense of clients in the railroad industry. He has extensive experience with grade crossing, derailment and FELA cases. Charley also has worked on a broad spectrum of other cases, including products liability, real property disputes and commercial litigation.

Representative Matters

Represented motor carriers in numerous serious injury and wrongful death cases.  Successfully mediated and/or negotiated favorable settlements for motor carriers throughout Alabama. 

Won a defense verdict for a railroad company arising from a quadruple fatality grade crossing accident. 

Secured dismissal of plaintiff’s claims against a motor carrier involving spinal injuries and multiple surgeries. 

Successfully defended a railroad company against a Federal Employers' Liability Act claim for injuries received by employee in an on-the-job grade crossing collision.

Obtained defense verdicts on behalf of a railroad company in multiple occupational disease actions brought under the Federal Employers' Liability Act.

Obtained summary judgment for motor carrier in personal injury action involving passenger’s fall from tractor.
