Christine D. Burkhart Partner

Christine Burkhart focuses her practice on construction defect, primarily representing subcontractors; product liability; premises liability; and trucking and transportation (commercial and personal lines). Most of her cases concern highly complex matters with substantial damages amounts. While a talented and skilled litigator, Christine has been successful in achieving highly desirable settlements in multimillion-dollar cases. She advises her clients at the first sign of a claim and takes them through a carefully crafted strategy, leading to trial when necessary.

Experienced in the Art of the Deal
Before pursuing her career in the law, Christine worked in mortgage lending for 13 years in the northern Ohio region and in Las Vegas. Early on she performed quality control audits of real estate appraisals for a title company. Thereafter, Christine worked as a loan originator, handled loan closings and became an underwriter. She then moved into management and oversaw loan operations and sales for branch offices in the region. Her knowledge of the business and ability to understand the relationships and the impact of laws and regulations give Christine’s clients added value that goes well beyond her legal prowess.

Areas of Focus

Construction Defect
Christine represents subcontractors in various trades on matters often involving multiple plaintiffs and complex third-party claims on issues of indemnity and contribution. She has litigated matters from subsidence to structural defects, personal injury to property damage, and mechanics’ liens to economic loss caused by delays.

General Liability
Christine handles claims through carefully conceived resolution plan designed to determine likely exposure, identify resolution options and ultimately conclude in outcomes that adhere to prescribed guidelines. She understands that clients prefer quick and cost-effective solutions to complex and potentially protracted liability cases. She does her best to accelerate turnaround through procedural dismissals, substantive dismissals, successful tenders and negotiated settlements. Christine has defended a variety of general liability matters, representing clients in personal injury matters involving automobile/trucking accidents, negligent security, slip/trip and fall matters, and dog bites.

Product Liability
Christine has represented numerous companies in matters involving medical devices, model car fuel, recreational products, flash grenades, construction equipment defects and a multitude of consumer products. She knows these matters frequently extend beyond legal defense to the business effects on risk management, insurance coverage, brand image, financing, financial reporting, corporate governance, future corporate transactions and communications to shareholders. Moreover, they rarely are limited to one court or jurisdiction. Each claim has nationwide and, often, international implications.

Trucking & Transportation
Christine represents trucking companies in state and federal courts throughout Nevada in litigation arising from property loss, severe personal injuries and fatalities. Her cases include all types of first- and third-party liability matters, personal injury and accident claims, regulatory compliance issues, environmental concerns, cargo shortages, damages and theft, cargo securement and packaging claims, recovery of stolen trailers or containers, products/manufacturing claims and subrogation claims. Christine leverages Wilson Elser’s depth of experience, broad geographic scope and adherence to a collaborative “cross-practice” approach as well as the firm’s nationwide 24/7 response program to help ensure that team members are engaged during the first critical hours following a catastrophe.
