Cynthia Maskol is an experienced litigator who has represented insurers in life, health, accidental death and disability cases. She has handled general and complex litigation, trial, class action, and appellate matters. In addition, Cindy is skilled in all aspects of federal and state employment disputes. She also has a background in professional practice cases, representing attorneys and insurance agents, brokers and producers.

Cindy assists clients in preventing, mitigating and managing exposure and provides innovative and cost-effective resolutions to the most complex legal issues. She also consults on insurance product development, underwriting, claims practices and procedures, and issues arising out of third-party administration of claims. She routinely acts as national coordinating or oversight counsel. As a former assistant general counsel for a large insurer, she brings the unique perspective of an attorney with both practical and in-house legal experience.

Aware that life, health and disability insurers face complex and ever-changing issues, Cindy represents the insurance industry and self-funded plans and works closely with insurers, underwriters, claims personnel, insurance agents and contract drafters. She has a profound understanding of clients’ legal challenges and a strong working knowledge of their respective businesses.

Employment & Labor
Cindy forms close relationships with clients to help them manage and navigate the ever-changing legal and legislative regulatory terrain of employment and labor law. She has experience handling employment disputes across the entire DC Metro area, including Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland. When claims arise, Cindy has the experience and wherewithal to act appropriately and decisively in conferring with clients, taking into consideration the demands of their industries, the history of their businesses and what outcomes would constitute success in their eyes.

Nationstar Mortgage, LLC v. Capital One, N.A. and Sonn, et al., Circuit Court of Maryland for Frederick County, Case 10C12000614 (2013) (summary judgment in favor of mortgage lender against borrower and borrower’s bank to recover insurance proceeds converted without lender’s endorsement); judgment against Capital One, N.A. upheld by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.
