Elizabeth M. Young Partner

Elizabeth Young practices in the areas of product liability and mass tort litigation. She serves as lead counsel for defendants in toxic tort litigation, including asbestos litigation, in state court throughout New York and in federal court. She is also experienced in commercial and class action defense litigation. Elizabeth has been a member of several bar association committees and served as chair of a subcommittee on continuing legal education. She has taught litigation skills workshops and a products liability course at the City Bar Center for Continuing Legal Education.

Elizabeth had a great affinity and a strong aptitude for the law at an early age. From courses in the law, membership in a legal organization and employment at a law firm throughout college, she knew she had found her passion. Entering law school high on the learning curve, she has since made optimal use of the lessons and insights she brings to the table on her clients’ behalf.

Areas of Focus

Toxic Tort / Product Liability
Elizabeth has handled toxic tort and product liability cases emanating from exposure to numerous products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and environmental sources occurring in the home and on the job. Product liability exposures have an adverse effect on the risk profile of many U.S. and global corporations, and Elizabeth looks beyond legal defense to the business effects on risk management, insurance coverage, brand, future corporate transactions and communications to shareholders. She is always prepared for the nationwide and, often, international implications. Before coming to Wilson Elser, Elizabeth was extensively involved as a member of the defense team for the World Trade Center Disaster Site Litigation in the Southern District of New York, handling the defense of numerous subcontractors sued in more than 10,000 cases.

Commercial & Business Litigation
Providing innovative and timely strategic counsel, Elizabeth helps her clients make better-informed decisions, resolve complex legal challenges and achieve specific business goals. In the area of commercial litigation, her seasoned and pragmatic approach demonstrates her experience with attorneys and judges. She has successfully defended clients in the courtroom and has exercised equal finesse in meeting client objectives through arbitration or other types of dispute-resolution methods.

Class Action
With class action cases becoming more duplicative and overlapping, and with motions filed in multiple jurisdictions during the same time period, Elizabeth leverages Wilson Elser’s national network of offices to launch a coordinated multi-front defense in these situations. She aims to simplify the process by bringing motions either for federal multidistrict consolidation or for state and federal coordination.
