George Pisano has over 37 years experience handling a wide range of personal injury and casualty-related matters. His practice focuses primarily on the defense of product liability claims with particular emphasis on representing medical device manufacturers and worldwide manufacturers of heavy machinery.

George represents manufacturers of medical devices, including duodenoscopes, in connection with claims and litigation. He acts in various capacities, including litigation and trial counsel, in defending suits against approved or cleared medical devices. George also is experienced in handling high-profile product liability cases in state and federal courts, including more than 40 cases involving morcellator claims for a leading provider of reusable products for laparoscopic surgery and related medical technologies. The firm’s national in-house infrastructure facilitates the handling and defense of large, cross-jurisdictional mass tort litigation with dockets numbering in the hundreds and a broad network of strategically located offices that provide an essential forum for developing and coordinating uniform mass tort defense strategies.

In his role as National Counsel for the world’s largest machine tool manufacturer, George has substantial experience in cases involving industrial equipment and metalworking machinery. Aware that exposures increasingly drive the litigation risk profile of many U.S. and global corporations, George looks to the business effects on risk management, insurance coverage, brand image, financing, financial reporting, corporate governance, future corporate transactions and communications to shareholders.

In more than 32 years at Wilson Elser, George has distinguished himself as a tenacious advocate who can quickly get to the meat of a case and deliver outstanding and cost-effective results, whether by court ordered dismissal, settlement or trial. Early in his career, George gained valuable insight from the plaintiff’s perspective while working two years with a plaintiffs’ law firm specializing in personal injury litigation, including workers’ compensation law, product liability, premises liability and general negligence.

Product Liability
During his career, George has handled product liability matters involving a myriad of products, including medical devices, printing presses, die casting machines, press brakes, punch presses, laser products, packaging machinery, industrial shears, industrial blenders, power tools, saw equipment, conveyor belts and augers, swimming pool products, garage door equipment, forklifts, truck trailers, industrial cranes and other complex industrial machinery. George is especially familiar with cases involving automobile and truck tires, having handled well over 100 such cases in his career. Examples of other products George has defended include a wide range of motor vehicle products, such as air bags and seat belt restraint systems; sports equipment, including bicycles, trampolines, weightlifting equipment, helmets and treadmills; bakery equipment; and cases involving metal and plastics failures.

A member of Wilson Elser’s Fire Response Team, George has substantial experience with the laws surrounding fire litigation, including investigations and analysis, causation and prevention strategies, and appeals and insurance coverage issues. His experience is backed by the firm’s resources, experts and library of briefs available to help defend clients against fire-related claims. George has handled fire cases involving sprinkler systems, heating units, kitchen appliances, copiers, televisions, propane tanks, industrial machinery, motor vehicles and other alleged defective product claims.

Defended manufacturer of laser cutting machine in $20 million property damage claim resulting from a fire that destroyed an entire manufacturing plant.

Defended major manufacturer of metalworking machinery in case involving hand amputation caused by press brake machine.

Obtained summary judgment for manufacturer of electronic control module for a passenger vehicle that allegedly failed and caused a multiple fatality and burn injury accident.

Defended major pool product manufacturer in claim of permanent brain injuries resulting from explosion of a pool filter.

Defended manufacturer of electric pool pump alleged to have caused electrocution death of mother of three while family was swimming in above-ground pool.

Defended tire manufacturer in case involving tire failure on a 15-passenger van resulting in rollover accident that killed three member of church group and caused serious injuries to other passengers.

Obtained summary judgment for tire manufacturer in case involving alleged tire defects resulting in accident that caused plaintiff, a husband and father of three, to become a quadriplegic in a permanent vegetative state.

Defended seat belt manufacturer in quadriplegic case involving vehicle rollover where seat belt system was alleged to be defective in design, causing passenger to be ejected.
