George D. Lagos Of Counsel

George Lagos has more than 15 years of civil and criminal litigation experience in South Florida. His practice includes defense of first-party property insurance claims against insurance carrier clients in Florida, from pre-suit investigations to summary judgment and trial.

Additionally, George has substantial experience in the area of real estate litigation, including condominium and homeowners’ association representation and prosecuting foreclosure actions on behalf of loan servicers and banking institutions. George’s real estate experience provides additional perspectives and insights in assessing his clients’ cases, and enables him to tailor litigation strategies for any issues that may arise.

George understands how to assess claims and risks in his cases, and ensures that clients are aware of both the strengths and weaknesses of their cases. An initial cost-benefit analysis gives clients the ability to resolve cases that should be settled and to identify cases that should proceed to summary judgment or trial. He works collaboratively with clients in assessing cases for resolution or for litigation, and provides options that are cost-effective to put the client in the best position for success.

Prior to joining Wilson Elser, George was a partner at two full-service South Florida law firms offering a broad variety of legal services to public and private businesses, professionals and individuals. He began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, where he prosecuted misdemeanors, felonies and juvenile cases. This experience included work with local law enforcement in the investigation of cases as well as non-jury and jury trial verdicts.

George’s trial experience as a prosecutor carried over to his civil trial experience, trying hundreds of non-jury real estate cases and litigating first-party property coverage claims disputes. This trial experience also allows George to operate effectively as monitoring counsel for his clients in evaluating potential exposure, recommending reserves, developing strategies to minimize client exposure and negotiating settlements.
