Karen Bettcher focuses her practice on litigation, including responding to pleadings, deposing witnesses, preparing and arguing motions, settlement negotiations and trial preparation, particularly in the areas of medical malpractice, professional liability and asbestos. She is actively involved in defending class actions, including claims under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act and claims involving data security breaches. In addition, Karen has some experience with defending general liability claims and complex patent litigation.
Karen served as a federal law clerk and has authored articles on employer liability for privacy breaches and intellectual property issues. While in law school and college, she worked as a summer intern at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in the areas of Criminal Enforcement, Special Prosecutions, Criminal Appeals and Crime Victims Division. She spent a semester studying abroad at Miami University Dolibois European Center, Differdange, Luxembourg, and traveled throughout Western Europe. In addition, Karen volunteered with the Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic.
