Karleen Joy Scharer Of Counsel




Karleen Scharer is an experienced litigator specializing in personal injury, catastrophic injury and death, toxic tort (asbestos and talc litigation), products liability, premises liability, medical malpractice and health care, transportation and general litigation matters. She also has experience representing product and device manufacturers. Karleen brings both a practical and a creative approach to litigations, basing her representation on gaining in-depth knowledge of her clients to evaluate and advise as to litigation strategy and risk. 

Prior to joining Wilson Elser, Karleen worked at a regional defense firm, where she focused on complex litigation, including toxic tort (asbestos and talc) and product liability litigation. Karleen also served as counsel for an international insurance company. 

Representative Matters

Obtained summary judgment dismissal on the basis of res judicata, after securing a defense award at arbitration in the previously filed action.

Successfully first-chaired admitted liability superior court trial involving injuries requiring a total shoulder replacement and rotator cuff repair, in which the verdict totaled less than the plaintiff’s medical specials.

Unanimous defense verdict in district court trial.

Obtained defense award in side-swipe motor vehicle case, where liability was disputed; the arbitrator agreed that plaintiff’s vehicle entered defendant’s lane of travel, and returned a defense award.

Obtained early dismissal on behalf of home health care entity in action where plaintiff alleged claims including failure to properly train/supervise, fraud, negligent infliction of emotional distress, breach of contract and violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
