Kristen M. Gaffey Associate




Kristen Gaffey handles complex tort and general casualty matters, including transportation, premises liability, product liability, property damage and construction. Kristen regularly represents global, national and local transportation companies, as well as national retailers, general contractors, product manufacturers, and commercial property owners and managers. 

Prior to joining Wilson Elser, Kristen worked for a mid-size defense firm focusing on ride-share, automobile, construction defect, product liability and premises liability litigation. She also drafted coverage opinions, including matters involving extra-contractual claims. 

Additionally, Kristen was a faculty member at the Charlotte School of Law, where she taught Bar Exam Studies, Professional Responsibility, UCC Articles 3&4 and other subjects. She also served as an academic adviser and a moot court coach. 

Before attending law school, Kristen worked for a Division I Athletic Department in Athletic Communications & Compliance, where she wrote media guides and press releases, served as a statistician, and advised students regarding NCAA policies and procedures. Kristen also worked for NBC at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, as a Production Intern.

Areas of Focus

Kristen has extensive experience handling first-party and third-party matters. She represents drivers and carriers under the Transportation Network Act and regularly defends clients in matters involving catastrophic loss and serious injuries, achieving favorable results in an aggressive and cost-effective manner.

Kristen works closely with commercial clients to reduce exposure by providing sound legal advice before and after an incident occurs. She handles all aspects of litigation and has negotiated favorable settlements to resolve complex issues related to liability and coverage.
