Laura Favaloro has more than 30 years of experience defending cases in state and federal courts throughout Texas. During her career, Laura has represented corporate clients in personal injury, toxic tort, premises liability, product liability and commercial litigation matters, as well as individual clients in commercial disputes. She has extensive experience defending cases filed under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA). 

Laura spends time learning her clients’ businesses so she can better represent them through the litigation process. She has tried numerous lawsuits to verdict, and has resolved many cases prior to trial through careful preparation for pretrial negotiations and mediation. Laura works closely with her clients to advise them on issues that arise before litigation and through trial. 

Laura handles all aspects of her docket, including discovery, pretrial motions, mediation and trial. She prides herself on attention to detail and her organization and planning skills. She works hard to achieve effective and efficient representation of her clients.

Transportation
Laura has defended cases for trucking industry clients following accidents that resulted in personal injuries, including catastrophic injuries and death. Additionally, she has assisted clients in analyzing claims prior to litigation as they consider issues such as liability, potential exposure and the possibility of early resolution. 

Railroad
For more than 20 years of her career, Laura has handled lawsuits filed under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA). Through her work in railroad-related litigation, Laura has an in-depth knowledge of both the industry and the applicable laws.

Product Liability
Laura has defended cases brought against product manufacturers, in particular manufacturers of tractor-trailers and school buses. In those cases, she has analyzed applicable federal regulations and determined appropriate preemption defenses. 

Complex Tort & General Casualty | Energy
Laura has handled cases related to accidents at oil and gas refineries as well as product manufacturing facilities. She has worked closely with her clients and retained experts to analyze causation as well as evaluate resulting damages. 

Representative Matters

Obtained summary judgment as part of a trial team on a multimillion-dollar death case in which plaintiffs alleged product liability and design defects. Summary judgment was granted based on a preemption defense, which was affirmed by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Obtained a defense verdict in a FELA trial in Harris County, Texas, regarding an employee’s alleged injuries, which he claimed he suffered inspecting trains in a railyard.

Obtained a defense verdict in favor of a railroad client in a FELA trial in Medina County, Texas. Additionally, recovered damages against a third-party defendant on behalf of the railroad client in the same trial.

Won summary judgment on a multimillion-dollar premises liability case.

Obtained a verdict following a trial in Orange County, Texas, in a contract dispute regarding responsibilities at a railroad crossing where a fatal collision occurred. The verdict was confirmed on appeal.

Won summary judgment in Jefferson County, Texas, in a case where the plaintiff claimed he was electrocuted at a job site.
