Marisa Trasatti Partner




Marisa Trasatti focuses her practice primarily on civil litigation, with an emphasis on product liability litigation, including cases involving drugs and medical devices, and premises liability with a focus on human trafficking. She serves as outside General Counsel for Sciton, Inc., a prominent medical and dermatological laser company based in Palo Alto, California. Marisa has experience litigating medical malpractice and insurance defense cases and has defended, locally and nationally, several large corporations in connection with toxic tort litigation.

Marisa is a dynamic force of nature, tested litigator and key strategist to her clients because she is passionate about her work, continues to hone her craft and achieves the best possible results for her clients. Her experience in life sciences includes domestic and international regulatory issues; negotiation, design and drafting of clinical trial agreements; interpreting court pronouncements; and vetting marketing materials for domestic and international regulatory compliance.

Marisa also handles a broad spectrum of matters related to corporate, employment, regulatory, contract and product liability issues in the United States and abroad. She is a trusted consultant to her clients for her frank, engaging discussions and thoughtful listening skills – she builds a genuine connection with her clients because relationship building is Marisa’s first and foremost priority. Marisa has lectured and written on the topics of Federal Preemption, learned intermediary defense, human trafficking, GDPR and social media.

In addition, Marisa’s workload includes consultation on corporate matters relating to international expansion in Canada, the Middle East/North Africa, Australia, Japan, Korea and elsewhere. She counsels on issues such as regulatory, patent, corporate and human resources matters.

Marisa has published articles for the FDCC, CLM and MDC. She serves as corresponding editor for the FDCC Flyer and is a contributing author for the chapter on "Leadership for Lawyers," an FDCC e-Book to be published in 2017. She co-authored the FDCC State Law Compendium on Maryland Negligence Law.

Early in her career Marisa served as a judicial intern for The Honorable Lawrence R. Daniels, Circuit Court for Baltimore County and legislative assistant to the late Honorable Senator John Cade.

Drug and Medical Device Litigation
Marisa serves domestic and foreign manufacturers of drugs and medical devices in connection with regulatory compliance, claims and litigation. She acts in various capacities in defending suits against name-brand and generic drugs and approved or cleared medical devices. Wilson Elser’s national in-house infrastructure facilitates the handling and defense of large, cross-jurisdictional mass tort litigation with dockets numbering in the hundreds. Marisa taps the firm’s national network of 38 strategically located offices as an essential forum for developing and coordinating uniform mass tort defense strategies. 

Life Sciences Litigation
Broader than drug and medical device litigation, Marisa’s life sciences work focuses on regulatory advice, clinical trial assistance and intellectual property matters arising from clinical trial work. She serves as outside General Counsel for Sciton, Inc., a leading dermatological and medical laser company in Palo Alto, California, which exposed her to regulatory and other nuances in this field both domestically and internationally.
