Matthew Valauri has more than 10 years of litigation experience working with insurance carriers and transportation and other companies in defending claims for personal injuries, wrongful death, property damage, product liability, breach of contract and creditors’ rights claims in New York and Connecticut. He also handles numerous matters relating to the needs of Canadian clients. Matthew has worked with clients on emergency response and product recall, interfacing with government agencies, experts and adjusters regarding investigations and evidence gathering.

Matthew is actively involved in multiple transportation industry organizations and defense organizations, including the Transportation Lawyers Association and the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association. He occasionally publishes articles and mentors young attorneys in topics ranging from state and federal court procedure to litigation strategies and substantive legal issues related to personal injury, property damage, product liability and subrogation claims litigation.

Real Estate / Premises Liability
Matthew has significant experience with real estate matters, from transactional issues to those that arise from ownership and management of real property. He regularly defends clients in premises liability claims, title claims and property disputes, and real estate professionals in professional liability and misrepresentation claims.Matthew occasionally handles pro bono real estate matters, assisting needy families with the purchase of affordable housing.

Corporate/Product Liability
Matthew handles a wide variety of complex corporate, commercial and general litigation cases on behalf of transportation companies, retailers, product manufacturers, construction companies, financial institutions, and other businesses in New York and Connecticut. He also manages counsel across the country in contract disputes, warranty claims, regulatory issues and other matters. In addition, Matthew has experience defending clients against toxic tort claims such as salmonella contamination and asbestos exposure matters.

Commercial/Creditors’ Rights/ Bankruptcy
Matthew has significant bankruptcy and creditors’ rights experience representing clients in various commercial and consumer litigation matters as well as in bankruptcy matters. He has represented banks, finance companies, equipment lessors, landlords and trade creditors in bankruptcy commercial and collection matters in state and federal courts. Such matters involve issues relative to automatic stay, adequate protection, executory contracts, secured and unsecured claims, preference/avoidance claims, and contesting plan confirmations in Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 cases.
