Melissa Buterbaugh Associate




Melissa Buterbaugh concentrates her practice in professional liability serving accountants, lawyers and physicians and premier teaching hospitals in addition to dentists, nurses, managed care organizations, other members of the allied health professions and privately run emergency rooms.  

Prior to joining Wilson Elser, Melissa performed civil defense work specializing in medical malpractice. In this field she has made court appearances, taken depositions, drafted motions, pleadings, and responded to and reviewed discovery. As a medical malpractice attorney, Melissa also handled federal litigation, including acting as lead counsel on Rule 16 pretrial and case management conferences and managing discovery for multi-district litigation involving more than 700 individual plaintiff suits.

Melissa also has experience in other litigation areas, including plaintiff-side personal injury, collections, landlord-tenant matters and legal malpractice.

Melissa served as a legal extern at the Rutgers Office of Technology Commercialization, and as a judicial intern for the Honorable Michael A. Shipp, District Court of New Jersey.
