Michael Rusch Associate




Michael Rusch practices in the areas of cybersecurity and privacy breach response, pre- and post-event. He provides analysis of compliance with the GLBA, COPPA, HIPAA/HITECH, and other related state, federal and international laws and regulations. Michael advises clients on identifying, evaluating and managing first- and third-party data privacy and security risks and addresses all aspects of the information management life cycle.

Before joining Wilson Elser, Michael was an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney's Office for nearly 13 years. During that time, he amassed significant litigation experience at the misdemeanor and felony trial levels. Michael conducted several hundred bench trials, handled motions and litigated more than 45 jury trials. His litigation experience encompasses murder, sexual assault cases, internet crimes against children, financial crimes, identity theft and computer fraud.

Prior to law school, Michael was a probation officer in Northwest Indiana where he monitored high-risk felony offenders placed on probation and under electronic home monitoring.
