Peter A. Cownan Of Counsel




Peter Cownan is a seasoned litigator who has spent more than a decade defending a broad range of clients, from public agencies and Fortune 100 companies to local family businesses and individuals. He is well regarded for the level of dedication he brings to each matter, and the efficient and collegial manner in which he ensures his clients’ legal and business goals are achieved.

Peter has extensive experience handling commercial and customer contract disputes, product liability matters and premises liability matters. He has defended public and private organizations in multimillion-dollar “bet the company” litigations, as well as in smaller matters where an efficient and early resolution is the priority. 

Peter also has experience counseling clients through employment and labor issues before and after litigation has commenced. He has provided strategic advice on how manufacturers can comply with OSHA workplace requirements, and has defended against and appealed the issuance of OSHA citations. Peter also has defended clients against Private Attorneys General Act  claims brought by employees.

Representative Matters

Defended a local public transit agency in a $100 million contract dispute. 

Defended national and international engineering, pharmaceutical and petroleum companies against claims that a product’s design, manufacture and/or warnings were defective. 

Defended consultants and parent companies in claims alleging the assumption of duty to others. 

Defended premises owners, including a local preschool, against personal injury claims.
