Ross Ellick is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He focuses his practice on complex litigation matters, with an emphasis on the defense of general, premises and construction liability claims, including those involving New York’s often-challenging Labor Law, and the defense of construction defect and property damage claims. A key component of Ross’s practice is his skill in navigating difficult insurance coverage and contractual indemnification issues essential to the transfer of risk, liability and indemnity from his clients. Ross’s strong and enduring client relationships are akin to partnerships built on trust, loyalty, reliability and responsiveness.

Using Wilson Elser’s extensive platform, Ross maintains and manages a multistate practice and a national team of attorneys in representing clients that include major insurance carriers; sports, entertainment and hospitality companies; shopping center owners and developers; a large hospital and behavioral health system; transportation and logistics companies; and numerous restaurant and retail chains. Ross has had great success in marketing Wilson Elser’s national reach and reputation, and its diverse and extensive capabilities across many practice areas, to provide insurance defense−related services to private equity firms and their portfolios of companies. In particular, Ross and his team defend premises and general liability matters, employment-related claims, and suits against a company’s directors and officers.

Much of Ross’s client base comprises business entities with significant self-insured retentions, in addition to owners of single-parent captive insurance companies and members of group captives and risk retention groups. Understanding that entities that self-insure have “skin in the game,” Ross and his team have leveraged and administered the firm’s client-specific Legal Process Management program, ALIGN, and used its techniques that employ efficiencies and claim-resolution strategies that directly impact and benefit the client’s bottom line.

Ross’s clients include companies that face international risk and exposure. In this respect, Ross’s practice draws on the truly international reach of Legalign Global − an alliance of four of the world's leading insurance law firms, of which Wilson Elser is a founding member.

Ross has decades of experience litigating commercial disputes, including but not limited to matters involving breach of contract and fraud, violations of securities laws, partnership and shareholder disputes, breaches of fiduciary duties, and suits against directors and officers. Ross also has a developed practice in secured lending transactions on behalf of financial institutions, including enforcing remedies for secured creditors and other UCC-related litigation.
