Tom Murray maintains a national practice defending businesses – including Fortune 500 companies – in product liability, professional liability and general liability matters. His clients operate in the full spectrum of industries, from manufacturing, trucking and construction to food services and retail sales.
Tom has an appreciation for the breadth and depth of his clients’ legal needs. He is adept at putting together integrated teams comprised of attorneys from across the firm who understand their clients’ businesses and are also compatible with them on a personal level. In this way, Tom builds a high level of trust, as well as an atmosphere of collegiality, that is conducive to resolving the issues that confront his clients in the course of conducting their businesses.
This approach has enabled Tom to develop a portfolio of clients that includes a global soft-drink manufacturer/distributer, national franchise restaurants and food delivery providers. He also has represented a for-profit network of vocational schools, a commercial provider of day care services and a national retailer of electronic games.
In 2011, the firm’s Executive Committee recognized Tom with the Harold Moskowitz “Client Service Award.”
Areas of Focus
Product Liability
Tom has appeared as lead trial counsel in product liability cases in both state and federal courts, and has been featured in a National Law Journal “Litigation Week” article on the timing of product liability lawsuits in a vaccine injury case.
For a national manufacturer and distributor of electrical and lighting equipment, Tom has organized an emergency claim response team that visits the scene of fires and other accidents involving electrical equipment and works with experts and investigators to determine if client products are at issue. He also regularly is retained in product liability matters involving fire suppression systems and fire and smoke alarms.
General Liability
Tom frequently is retained by insurers or third-party administrators to handle general liability claims for food delivery businesses. He currently handles such claims for corporate and franchise stores of a national pizza delivery chain, directly litigating claims in locations where Wilson Elser has offices and coordinating representation in other locations across the country.
In the trucking and transportation area, Tom represents a commercial vehicle company whenever – and wherever – it has a claim involving a vehicular accident. He also defends a road contractor in lawsuits involving significant injuries and requiring assessment of the roles of various contractors.
