Craig Brinker (Partner, Dallas) co-presented “Testify! The Actuary as Expert Witness” at the 2025 National Society of Actuaries Health Conference, held in Dallas, Texas, on June 22–25, 2025. Craig was joined by Jacqueline (Jackie) Lee, Vice President & Principal at Lewis & Ellis in Dallas, with Brian Mackintosh, Vice President and Actuary for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, serving as moderator. The presentation examined the role of an expert witness from initial engagement through testimony at trial. Craig shared best practices on preparing and presenting testimony, including emphasizing the actuarial expert’s focus on the work being presented, the opinions generated by that work, and the reliability of the evaluated data. Practical tips and traps for deposition and trial testimony were also offered. The presentation was extremely well-received and included lively audience participation, one attendee exclaiming, “And, I would have stayed for another hour!”
