Lisa Handler Ackerman (Partner-Chicago, IL) presented “Emerging Laws Governing Privacy of Biometric Data,” a webinar sponsored by the Brokers & Reinsurance Markets Association (BRMA) on January 21. 2021. With more than 70 in attendance, Lisa discussed the nuances of Biometric Data and the effects of the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), which regulates how “private entities” collect, use and share “biometric information” and “biometric identifiers,” and the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA), which gives consumers more control over the personal information that businesses collect about them.
