Eric Niederer (Partner-Stamford | Hartford, CT) and Amber Denno (Associate-Hartford, CT) were speakers at the 33rd New England Regional Healthcare Risk Management Conference hosted by the Massachusetts Society for Healthcare Risk Management. The presentation, titled "HIPAA: What Do I Do if ICE Wants Patient PII/PHI?" focused on highlighting various HIPAA considerations in the current political climate. Eric and Amber provided insight on HIPAA exceptions for law enforcement investigation purposes, as well as practical guidance for examining HIPAA regulations and associated Executive Orders in efforts to educate on mitigating risk on inadvertent disclosure of personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI).
