Ian Stewart (Partner-Los Angeles) and Jennifer Rebholz (Of Counsel-Phoenix), along with several industry experts, will teach the course “The Cannabis Landscape” at the Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association (WSIA) University, to be held August 15-17 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Spanning several hours, this class takes a deep dive into the current cannabis marketplace and the status of the cannabis industry, state regulatory structures and legalization efforts considering the disparity in federal and state statutes. Topics discussed include key risks to cannabis companies from emerging product liability, intoxicating hemp-derived cannabinoids, on-site consumption/cannabis lounges, and litigation tends that most affect the cannabis industry. The cannabis insurance marketplace also will be discussed, including the property claim experience, the development of other coverages, unique policy forms used to insure cannabis risks and common coverage pitfalls.
