New York partners Irv Hirsch, Fran Malfa and Paul Karp and Matt Matera (Of Counsel-New York) presented a mock trial at Mount Sinai West, with a video connection to Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital on June 17, 2019. “Anatomy of a Medical Malpractice Trial: A Surgical Consult Responds to a Call from the ER” demonstrated the importance of accurate and concise documentation in medical records, clear communication between physicians and use of social media to impeach the credibility of witnesses. The trial consisted of opening statements, testimony of five witnesses (all portrayed by Paul), use of medical records and photographs of the plaintiff from social media, closing statements and audience deliberations. More than 80 members of the medical staff, including physicians, nurses and risk managers attended.
