Gregory L. Miller brings more than two decades of real-world law enforcement and investigative experience to Wilson Elser’s Transportation and Crisis Management groups and 24/7 emergency response team. A retired Area Commander with the Virginia State Police, Greg spent 25 years investigating and supervising major motor vehicle crashes, including multi-fatality incidents, commercial vehicle crashes, hazmat spills, and complex reconstruction cases. His hands-on experience also includes criminal investigations, train and plane crashes, and other major incidents.

Following his State Police career, Greg served as an attorney with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), where he applied his extensive motor carrier and highway safety knowledge to support the agency’s commercial safety efforts. In this role, he gained insight into FMCSA’s mission of reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses through effective regulation, promotion of safety, and strong partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies, the motor carrier industry, and organized labor.

Greg has also served for 16 years as an attorney in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In this role, he has advised on numerous complex investigations, drawing on his extensive investigative and police supervisory background to provide effective legal guidance and oversight.

Greg has extensive emergency management training, including Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) courses on the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS). He has completed multiple classes focused on multiagency coordination and collaboration between state and local governments and the military during large-scale operations.

Greg’s unparalleled combination of practical experience, highway safety knowledge, investigations experience, and legal background enables him to deliver immediate credibility and strategic guidance in high-stakes crisis situations – helping clients protect evidence, manage liability, and minimize exposure from the very first hours of an incident.
