Ian Stewart (Partner-Los Angeles) will speak on the panel “Dude, Prepare for Legalization: Cannabis and Professional Liability” at the PLUS conference to be held November 11−13, 2019, in National Harbor, Maryland. The commercial cannabis industry is highly regulated and underwriting cannabis risks requires a deep understanding of the cannabis industry as well as the individual state regulated markets. This session will examine the insurance industry’s challenges with this growing exposure. Cannabis claims involve risks that are not well known at this time due to the lack of long-term research and studies as a result of cannabis’ federal illegality. The interplay between the state legal commercial cannabis market and federal illegality causes a unique dilemma for the insurance industry.
