Ian A. Stewart (Partner-Los Angeles) will present “Navigating Cannabis, Hemp and CBD Claims” at the 50th Anniversary Conference of the International Association of Claim Professionals (IACP) to be held September 22−25, 2019, in Dana Point, California. Ian emphasizes that claims adjusters and the defense attorneys who handle cannabis claims must be familiar with state regulations, including highly specific requirements involving the chain of distribution, transportation, quality control, testing, reporting, record keeping (track and trace), labeling/warnings, advertising/marketing and disposal. Cannabis insurance claim units will likely develop in a manner similar to those for employment, D&O and cyber claims – with small dedicated claim units that gradually expand over time.
