Marisa Trasatti (Partner-Baltimore) appeared as moderator of a panel on “Social Inflation and the Litigation that Follows” at the 2020 Corporate Counsel Symposium hosted by the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, October 5–6, 2020, via online platform. Social inflation in litigation is the increase in the number and severity of claims due to social and political factors, such as excessive jury awards and the desensitization of juries (and judges) because of social media, and the unfiltered and sometimes inaccurate reporting of case facts and results. Marisa explores the concepts and factors behind the cultural shift and the issues driving the current risk and liability climate.
