Adam Bialek (Partner-New York) and Kara Thorvaldsen (Partner-Boston) will share how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) applies to online activities, with an overview of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Adam and Kara will appear on November 5, 2020, on a webinar sponsored by myLawCLE/ Federal Bar CLE to discuss the current state of the law, the prevalence of claims in this area of law, and how risks can be mitigated by developing and implementing reasonable accommodations for disabled users. Key topics are how the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted businesses and other organizations to online platforms, how the ADA and other statutes and regulations regarding accessibility apply to “online accommodations,” the risks of having inaccessible websites or web-based apps and the reasons to increase accessibility, and an overview of available risk mitigation strategies.
