People: Michelle Gallagher

Michelle Gallagher (Partner-Boston, MA) was a guest lecturer at Bertolon School of Business of Salem State University on April 28, 2026, where she developed and presented an interactive presentation entitled, “Trademark Law and Brand Building: Protection and Enforcement Strategies.” Michelle delivered an engaging and practical overview of trademark law, introducing core concepts and real-world applications to Bertolon Business School graduate students. She discussed the lifecycle of a brand – from initial brand selection and clearance to the development and implementation of effective filing strategies – highlighting the importance of building a strong, protectable brand identity from the outset. Expanding beyond the basics, Michelle also explored global brand protection and enforcement strategies, offering insight into how companies safeguard their trademark portfolios across jurisdictions and develop proactive strategies to deter potential infringement. Together, these topics provided business school students, ranging from entrepreneurs to corporate executives to independent business owners, with a cohesive understanding of how legal strategy supports and sustains brand value in a competitive, international marketplace. With a highly engaged group, the presentation lasted the full two hours of class time, and the entire class stayed late to ask more questions. Salem State University was very appreciative and left the door open for more engagement with its business school participants.
