ABA Journal Publishes Stratton Horres on Retiring in Stages

ABA Journal

Author: E. Stratton Horres Jr.

Stratton Horres (Senior Counsel - Dallas, TX) was featured in the ABA Journal on June 8, 2022 with his piece entitled, “A funny thing happened on the way to my retirement.” With wisdom drawn from more than 41 years as a civil defense attorney, Stratton counsels fellow attorneys nearing retirement age to consider “retiring in stages,” his first of which included stepping down from firm management after 28 years as a managing partner of the Wilson Elser Dallas, TX, office. While recognizing retirement as a personal journey, Stratton found himself “freed from the administrative and management burdens,” noting “other avenues opened up…writing and speaking about areas of legal interest to clients and prospective clients of the firm,” along with co-chairing the firm’s National Trial Team. Encouraging others to “take your own deposition to gain clarity,” Stratton has done so and found a life balance and the time to give back. “Retiring in stages doesn’t mean stepping out of law; to the contrary, it means stepping into something else that I’m thriving at—and so can you.”
