Thomas Gambardella Quoted in Business Insurance Article on the Prosecution of Hollywood Architect

January 20, 2014

Thomas Gambardella (Partner-White Plains) was quoted in the January 20, 2014, Business Insurance article, “Prosecution of Hollywood architect serves as professional liability wake-up call.” The article discusses an unusual case involving German architect Gerhard Becker, who was sentenced to prison for intentionally installing an improper fireplace into his Hollywood Hills, CA, home that led to a firefighter’s death. It addresses professional liability for design professionals and that this arrest and criminal conviction are reminders that design professionals can face criminal charges.

Tom was quoted in the article saying, “The case raises the consciousness across the country about architects' potential liability. Municipalities may be more aggressive in looking to take action against design professionals should they find activity they believe is grossly negligent and possibly equating with criminal negligence. It's a subject that's clearly being discussed across the country.”
