ThinkProgress Quotes Tucker on How Native Americans Have Fared under the Voting Rights Act

Jim Tucker (Of Counsel-Las Vegas) and fellow members of the non-partisan Native American Voting Rights Coalition worked extensively with ThinkProgress to identify issues and obtain the facts for “Native Americans’ right to vote is under attack,” an article in the June 20, 2018, issue of the online magazine. With the exception of Arizona, legal challenges to new laws that disadvantage Native Americans have been successful in every state, with courts siding with the voters in finding that the laws are discriminatory. “What has essentially resulted is a lot of expensive and time-consuming litigation by civil rights groups … to stop the laws from going into effect,” said Jim. “Even though they’re the original residents and occupants of this land, Native Americans are among the last people in the United States to be given the opportunity to vote.”
