Katt and Loringer Obtain Dismissal of Products Liability Cases Venued in Greece Involving Crash of Plane in Spain

February 5, 2019

William Katt and John Loringer (Partners-Milwaukee) recently obtained the complete dismissal of two products liability lawsuits venued in Athens, Greece, on behalf of an American global aerospace, defense, security and advanced technologies company. The cases involved the death of two Greek Air Force pilots during a NATO exercise in Albacete, Spain, on January 26, 2015. The pilots were operating a plane manufactured by our client that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing both pilots and nine French personnel on the ground. The plaintiffs claimed that a trim knob on the plane was defectively designed thereby causing the crash. Following extensive briefing by both parties, the court in Athens issued a written decision finding that our client was not subject to jurisdiction, given the absence of a sufficient presence in Greece.
