The Guardian Quotes Willner on Taxing Marijuana Businesses
Neil Willner (Associate-White Plains) was quoted in an article, “Can legal weed ever beat the black market?” on March 18, 2019, in The Guardian. According to the article, in states currently figuring out how to regulate the drug, striking a balance to encourage consumers to shop at legal businesses has become a key priority. On the east coast, where the gray market isn’t as pervasive, states need to set taxes at a level that won’t send users back to their dealers. Two recent reports in New York warned that a high tax rate “could hamstring the industry before even getting off the ground,” according to Neil.
