Ian Stewart (Partner-Los Angeles) was quoted in “Higher Law: Marijuana's Election Night Wins | New York Proposes CBD Rules | DLA Piper Guides Aphria Deal,” an article in the November 5, 2020, edition of According to Ian, “Based on the election results thus far, it is looking more likely that the Republicans will continue to control the Senate … Under that scenario, broad federal legalization similar to the MORE Act or STATES Act is very unlikely. It is somewhat more likely that we may see passage of limited banking protections.” Further, Ian noted, “My main takeaway from the election results is that cannabis legalization remains a popular and bipartisan issue when voters are presented with the topic as a single-issue ballot question. Broad cannabis reform at the federal level, however, remains elusive due to Republican control of the Senate and presidential candidates who are focused on other issues.”

In the same article under the section on “New York Proposes CBD Rules,” Neil Willner (Associate-White Plains) was quoted from an October 29 firm client advisory as follows: “The 63-page rule, one of the most forward-looking sets of regulations for hemp-derived products yet created, promotes transparency and consumer protection.”
