Chicago Team Presents Seminar on Law Firm Cyber Risks to Policyholders

Mike Tone (Partner-Chicago) and Geoff Belzer (Of-Counsel -Chicago) presented three 90-minute seminars on June 13 and 14, 2012, entitled, "Law Firm Cyber Risks: Real World Solutions,” to an audience of approximately 100 law-firm policyholders.
The seminars included timely issues related to cyber security including:
- Common law firm privacy and security misconceptions
- Data privacy laws and regulations
- Types of security breaches law firms are experiencing
- Law firm liability for a security breach
- Whether law firms have insurance coverage under their malpractice or EPL policies
- What to do in the event of a security breach
Mr. Tone has a well-established national trial and appellate practice in the professional liability area. During his 37-year legal career, he has defended numerous attorneys, accountants, insurance agents, real estate agents, consultants, brokers, architects, and engineers. Mr. Tone also represents carriers in bad faith claims as well as in insurance coverage matters involving professional liability, directors and officers liability, and comprehensive general liability policies.
Mr. Belzer is an experienced litigator who focuses his practice on defending a wide variety of professional liability claims , including data security, cyber liability practice, legal malpractice claims and claims against officers and directors of corporations. Mr. Belzer provided the attendees with insight regarding electronic communications between attorneys and their clients, internet scams which all attorneys need to be protect themselves from and other topics which he has previously addressed in similar sessions in the Chicago area.
