Thomas Zelante Joins Wilson Elser’s Florham Park, New Jersey, Office

Former Morris County First Assistant Prosecutor to work in Complex Tort & General Casualty Practice

Florham Park, N.J. – January 13, 2022 -- National law firm Wilson Elser announced today that Thomas Zelante, formerly the First Assistant Prosecutor for Morris County, has joined the firm’s Florham Park office as Of Counsel.

At Wilson Elser, Mr. Zelante will be a member of the firm’s Complex Tort & General Casualty Practice.

Mr. Zelante was the First Assistant Prosecutor at the Office of the Morris County Prosecutor from September 2007 until December 2020, under three County Prosecutors from different political parties. He is the longest serving First Assistant Prosecutor in the history of the office. 

As second in command of the agency after the prosecutor, Mr. Zelante helped supervise an office with more than 160 employees. He managed the Financial Crimes Unit, the Insurance Fraud Unit, the Bias Crimes Unit, the Juvenile Unit, the Missing Persons Unit and the Victim Witness Unit, and was in charge of all civil litigation involving the office.

Prior to working in the prosecutor’s office, Mr. Zelante was a partner in the law firm of Bowkley & Zelante, PC, in Randolph, New Jersey. He specialized in litigation, governmental practice, insurance defense, land use and real estate. 
 
Mr. Zelante also served as special counsel, borough attorney and zoning board attorney for several New Jersey communities, and was appointed to state authority, educational and taxation agency roles by New Jersey governors Jim McGreevey and Richard J. Codey.

Additionally, Mr. Zelante served for four years as a Trustee of the Morris County Bar Association. He remains a member of the Association and sits on the Professionalism Committee; in 2004 he received the Bar Association’s Pro Bono/Community Service Award, a lifetime achievement award. Mr. Zelante also served four years on the District X Ethics Committee, governing Morris and Sussex counties. 

Mr. Zelante was Chairman of the Morris County Democratic Committee from June 2002 to June 2004. In 2003 he ran for the New Jersey General Assembly.
 
Mr. Zelante received a J.D. degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and a B.A. degree in Political Science from LaSalle College.
