Jana Simmons (Of-Counsel, Michigan) will appear on a main-stage panel at the DRI Annual Meeting to be held October 17−21, 2018, in San Francisco, California. “Defending Native Nations and Native Businesses: What Matters and Why It Matters” will explore the roots of tribal sovereignty, federal Indian law, jurisdictional interplay and what to expect when practicing before a tribal court. The panel also will describe the impact of tribal culture in resolving disputes and significant considerations for advancing Native Nations and protecting their businesses when faced with personal injury, premises liability, product liability and other civil lawsuits.
