3D Printing Medical Devices and the Disruption of Product Liability Law

Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters, St. Louis Chapter

Date: September 10, 2019
Location: St. Louis, Missouri

Daniel Tranen (Partner-Missouri) will present “3D Printing Medical Devices and the Disruption of Product Liability Law” at the September 10, 2019, meeting of the St. Louis Chapter of the Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters. Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, is a technological revolution that promises to transform the medical device industry and democratize the design and manufacture of medical devices by point-of-care (POC) users such as doctors and hospitals. The FDA has shown very little inclination to regulate 3D printing, particularly in the care setting. Dan will explain why product liability law as it is currently configured will be disrupted when litigation arises from defects particularly in the POC manufacturing of medical devices.
