3D Printing Medical Devices and the Disruption of FDA Regulation & Product Liability Law

Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance Annual Conference

Date: June 17, 2021
Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Daniel Tranen (Partner-Edwardsville, IL and St. Louis, MO) will join a panel on 3D printing of medical devices at the 2021 Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance Annual Conference to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 16‒18, 2021. “3D Printing Medical Devices and the Disruption of FDA Regulation & Product Liability Law” will address how this now billion-dollar industry, when used to make medical devices in point-of-care settings such as hospitals, will disrupt the use of standard strict liability product claims when a defective device is made. In addition, the traditional role of the FDA in regulating medical devices will be compromised since point-of-care manufacturing eliminates the need for clearance to sell medical devices. The concepts of what is a product, what is product design and what constitutes manufacture of a product will all need to be reconsidered with the use of this new technology.
