Date: November 5, 2015
Location: New York, NY

Tony Corleto (Partner-Stamford), Eric Sauter (Partner-New York) and Anna Korzhenevich (Associate-Stamford) participated in a Concussion Coverage Discussion sponsored by the National Sports Concussion Coalition on November 5, 2015. The National Sports Concussion Coalition,  a cooperative effort among leading nationwide youth sport organizations, brought together its members and leading sports risk underwriters to discuss recent peer reviewed research, risk management protocols from the youth sport sector and the legal challenges presented by concussion.

Tony’s topic, “Defending Concussion Litigation,” covered recent favorable decisions in sports concussion cases, defense strategies and standards of care. Eric presented on “Concussion Coverage Litigation,” addressing the coverage issues in class action claims and strategies for limiting carrier and insured exposure to class action law suits. Anna’s “Zachary Lystedt Law Overview” highlighted a survey of states that have enacted comprehensive youth sports concussion safety laws.

Other presentations included a peer-reviewed epidemilogical study showing that coach education and contact restrictions in youth football programs dramatically reduce the risk of concussion, and presentations from national governing bodies of youth football and soccer about education requirements and contact restrictions that each organization has implemented.
