Irv Hirsch (Partner-New York), Paul Karp (Partner-New York) and Matthew Matera (Of Counsel-New York) presented a mock trial on 10/15/20 at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in New York City, with a video connection to Mount Sinai West Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. The case involved the development of a sacral pressure ulcer in a 91-year-old patient who was at the end of life, and focused on the importance of timely and accurate documentation. The trial featured opening statements, testimony by an actual nurse from the hospital and the testimony of expert witnesses for each side, both portrayed by Matt. There also were closing statements and interactive audience participation in rendering a verdict. Irv played the role of plaintiff’s counsel, and Paul was defense counsel. More than 35 members of the medical staff, including physicians, nurses and risk managers attended.
