Atlanta, GA
Peter Skiko (Of Counsel-Chicago, IL) was invited by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to take part in a livestreamed panel "listening session" in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 22, 2024. The topic was premises liability tort reform in Georgia, which is currently ranked the nation’s #1 “Judicial Hellhole” by the American Tort Reform Foundation. Pete attended as a representative of the National Association of Security Companies (NASCO) to ensure that the contract security industry had a vocal seat at Georgia’s tort reform table.
The discussion, which was attended by Governor Kemp, the First Lady of Georgia, the Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House and other state leaders, informed the Governor of the reasons why tort reform is badly needed in the state, and the language that draft legislation would need to include in order to make tort reform happen. Pete’s comments centered on the interests of the private security industry, and he was joined by representatives of the insurance, grocery store, convenience store, trucking, restaurant and daycare industries.
