Overview

Wilson Elser’s Energy Practice closely monitors new developments in this evolving field, forecasting where it is headed and anticipating how our clients can comply with applicable codes and laws while minimizing their exposure.

With extensive experience and knowledge of the energy landscape and ready access to our colleagues in related areas, we take particular pride in helping clients navigate the complex and interrelated issues that define this practice.

Our attorneys are conversant in the coverage issues surrounding physical damage and liability from upstream and downstream operations and the practices, risks and outside influences that affect energy contractors. We have gained considerable experience with energy and infrastructure projects, climate change and sustainability matters by representing clients engaged in or considering business ventures in emerging green energy fields, such as solar, wind, geothermal, cogeneration, biofuels and biomass.

Given Wilson Elser’s heritage and continued strength in insurance defense, our Energy team is especially effective in dealing with the casualty claims and toxic tort matters brought by employees and others. These reflect the ever-present liabilities that come with operating refineries, dams, wind turbines, and offshore and land-based drilling rigs, including the chemicals and equipment used in hydraulic fracturing. We also serve clients from the businesses that transport raw and processed energy products, such as pipelines, power lines, tankers and overland transports. Wilson Elser defends ancillary providers involved in the industry, such as hazardous waste removal companies, and the products and equipment they use, and we resolve lawsuits and regulatory issues surrounding greenhouse gas emissions by trial, settlement and dismissal.
