Shira T. Straus focuses her practice on general liability, auto, premises liability, Labor Law, and other such claims on behalf of major insurance carriers and their insureds. She handles matters for her clients from inception through resolution, whether by settlement, dispositive motion, mediation and arbitration, or trial, and actively litigates cases in state courts throughout New York. Shira is known for her detail-oriented approach to legal strategizing and discovery. She also has significant e-Discovery experience. In addition, Shira’s practice encompasses the defense of civil sexual abuse claims brought under New York’s Child Victims Act.
Shira joined the firm with an extensive legal background in litigation acquired during her work at two regional, broad-based insurance defense firms focusing on New York Labor Law, auto, premises liability, property damage, and other personal injury matters. She also has defended complex internet-based defamation and libel claims. Additionally, Shira has represented executives in the financial services and banking industries, where she litigated and arbitrated matters related to post-employment restrictive covenants and contractual obligations in New York state courts as well as at JAMS, FINRA, and the American Arbitration Association.
During law school, Shira served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Timothy McCormack, Eighth District Court of Appeals in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
