Tom Tobin and Dan Braude (Partners-White Plains, NY) will present “Pipeline Public Safety, the NTSB & Response to Crisis” before the Southern Gas Association’s Management Conference to be held June 29‒July 1, 2021. This presentation will focus on what a gas utility can expect on-scene and in the months that follow. Tom and Dan, authors of Wilson Elser’s Guide to National Transportation Safety Board Investigations, have represented pipeline operators and transportation providers in dozens of these investigations. They will provide insights into which pipeline incidents the NTSB is most likely to investigate, who will likely be invited to participate as a “party,” what happens while the NTSB is on scene, typical interaction with other stakeholders (the press, the company’s management, plaintiffs’ attorneys and judges), how to anticipate and prepare for NTSB interviews, the importance of vetting draft NTSB documents, the preparation of party submissions, and in-person meetings with the five board members, who are presidential appointments.
